The Influence of Pretreating Nutrient Solution on Pepper - Seed Germination

Abstract
Studies were conducted in order to obtain the most effective method to promote pepper seed germination. The treated nutrient solution, KNO©ø+KH©üPO©þ, which was used for pretreatment of pepper seeds, was 0, 0.5, 1.0, 1.5, 2.0%, respectively in concentration.
While the effect of nutrient solutions (3, 5, 7cc) per Petri dish(9§¯ in diameter) and pretreated periods(3, 5, 7 days) on germination speed and rate were checked in incubator, and they were compared with one day soaking seeds in water and non-treated seeds.
The results obtained were summarized as follows.
1) The speed of germination of all seeds pretreated with nutrient solution was greatly accelerated more than that of the nontreated seeds.
2) Average days required for germination of the seeds pretreated with low concentration of nutrient solution were less than that of high concentration, but the percent of germination resulted in adverse situation.
3) The range of average days required for germination between 20¡É and 30¡É was smaller in pretreated seeds than in nontreated seeds.
4) Average days required for germination was accelerated at most in seeds pretreated with 2% KNO©ý+KH©üPO©þ solution 5cc per Petri dish for 5 days.
5) The speed of germination for soaked seeds in water did not show any difference over the control seeds which were not pretreated. From the results, the pretreating method soaked the pepper seeds for some days with 2% KNO©ý+KH©üPO©þ, solution and dried them seemed to be practical,
